Your PA school interview is likely the most important interview of your life up to this point, so it goes without saying that you need to make an exceptional impression on your big interview day at the PA programs you interview at!
Physician assistants schools and the PA career in general strongly value professionalism! This is one of the cornerstones of the profession and one you need to model at your PA school interview.
We have interviewed countless pre-PAs and have seen the spectrum of interview attire and professionalism, and trust us when we tell you, if you don’t exemplify professionalism at your PA school interview, you will absolutely NOT get accepted to PA school.
Yes, it’s THAT important!
You must make sure you dress professionally for your interview. Again, this is probably the BIGGEST INTERVIEW of your life up until this point, so don’t ruin it by dressing unprofessional.
Remember, you have a VERY short time to make a favorable impression on the admissions committee and if you start off on the wrong foot, then it will damage your chances of getting a seat in their program.
We know you probably think this is common sense, but we promise…we see students get it wrong EVERY SINGLE interview cycle!
Here are a few quick rules:
- Dress conservatively. No short skirts or tank tops or stiletto heels…that will set the wrong tone. When in doubt go more conservative just to be on the safe side. Make sure you aren’t accidentally flashing the admissions committee with a low cut top, or a blouse that swings low when you go to sit down.
- Cover up all tattoos and take out all piercings (women may leave in ONE pair of earrings). We love tattoos and think they make you unique, but interview day is NOT the time to flash them. Some professors may think you’re unprofessional if you don’t cover up your markings.
- No headgear (unless it’s religious). This includes ball caps, cowboy hats, beanies, berets, etc. (Sigh, yes we’ve seen this too…)
- Guys- make sure to brush your hair (we can’t believe we have to say this but we’ve had some wild hair students in the past) and SUIT and TIE are mandatory! No exceptions.
- From the SECOND you walk in, until you get into your car and drive away, maintain a professional image…you never know who is watching! And there is always someone watching.
Be friendly, be professional, and most of all show your passion to become a PA!
We know you’ve got this!
