The Biggest CASPA Mistakes Pre-PAs Make in the First 30 Days

Posted on May 28, 2026Comments Off on The Biggest CASPA Mistakes Pre-PAs Make in the First 30 Days

CASPA opens… and suddenly every pre-PA enters what can only be described as:

✨ application panic season ✨

Everyone’s rushing to submit.
Everyone’s asking when they should apply.
Everyone’s comparing themselves to everyone else.

And honestly?

A LOT of pre-PAs accidentally hurt their chances in the first 30 days of the CASPA cycle without even realizing it.

Not because they aren’t capable of getting accepted…

…but because they submit too quickly, too late, or too strategically off.

So let’s talk about the biggest mistakes we see every single cycle — and how to avoid them.

1. Waiting Too Long to Submit Because You Want Everything “Perfect”

This is probably the biggest mistake we see.

Pre-PAs wait and wait and wait because:

  • they want more shadowing
  • one more volunteer experience
  • another class finished
  • another draft of their personal statement

Meanwhile?

Rolling admissions schools are already reviewing applications and sending interview invites.

Listen carefully:

👉 Your application will always become more competitive with “more”. But waiting is not always the best answer, and it can actually ruin your CASPA cycle. You app DOES need to be polished, strategic, and submitted early.

There’s a huge difference.

2. Submitting a Rushed Application Just to Be “Early”

On the flip side…

Some pre-PAs hear “apply early” and suddenly submit an application held together with caffeine, stress, and a dream 💀

Typos.
Weak experience paragraphs.
Personal statements with no real theme or depth.

Remember:

Early helps… but only if your application is actually competitive.

A weak application submitted in May is still a weak application.

3. Applying to Schools That Aren’t a Good Fit for Your Stats

This one hurts because it wastes:

  • time
  • money
  • emotional energy

Every cycle, pre-PAs apply to schools they realistically don’t align with because:

  • the school sounds impressive
  • someone on TikTok applied there
  • they didn’t research deeply enough
  • they didn’t compare their stats with the school’s accepted stats

You NEED a strategic school list.

Not just random programs.

Things like:

  • GPA requirements
  • PCE expectations
  • rolling admissions
  • mission fit
  • prerequisite requirements

…all matter way more than most students realize.

4. Underestimating Their Experience Paragraphs

So many students obsess over their personal statement…

…and completely rush their CASPA experiences.

Huge mistake.

Your experience paragraphs help PA schools understand:

  • your role
  • your skills
  • your maturity
  • your patient care background
  • your communication abilities

Weak experience descriptions can make strong experiences look average.

5. Waiting Too Long to Request Letters of Recommendation

Your LOR writers are humans.

Busy humans 😅 Busy professionals.

The students who struggle most are usually the ones requesting letters:

  • last minute
  • without clear instructions
  • without giving enough notice

The BEST thing you can do?

Have your writers lined up EARLY and be ready to request letters as soon as CASPA opens.

6. Thinking Their GPA Automatically Disqualifies Them

We need to have a quick heart-to-heart here.

Every year, students with low GPAs get accepted to PA school.

And every year, students with amazing GPAs get rejected.

Why?

Because PA school applications are holistic.

If you have weaknesses:

  • your school list matters MORE
  • your writing matters MORE
  • your strategy matters MORE
  • your timing matters MORE

Don’t count yourself out before programs even get to review your application.

7. Trying to Navigate CASPA Completely Alone

We say this lovingly…

CASPA is ALOT.

There are so many moving parts:

  • experiences
  • transcripts
  • personal statements
  • school matching
  • timing
  • supplemental essays
  • interviews

And unfortunately, bad advice online is everywhere.

Having guidance can save you:

  • months of stress
  • costly mistakes
  • delayed applications
  • unnecessary rejections

Final Thoughts

The first 30 days of the CASPA cycle matter more than most pre-PAs realize.

This is the foundation of your entire application season.

So instead of:
❌ rushing
❌ panicking
❌ comparing yourself to everyone online

Focus on:
✅ strategy
✅ timing
✅ quality
✅ applying smart

You do NOT need a perfect application to get accepted.

But you DO need a competitive one.

And the students who approach CASPA strategically are often the ones opening acceptance emails later 💛
